Dr. Teresa Hall is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in sports medicine. She provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, helping patients of all ages and activity levels return to the activities they love safely and confidently. Her clinical expertise includes arthroscopic and open procedures of the shoulder and knee, knee and shoulder joint replacement, fracture care, and general orthopaedics. She is committed to guiding patients through every phase of recovery—from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and long-term performance.

Dr. Hall earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing. She completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at Metro Health – University of Michigan Health-West in Wyoming, Michigan, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the University at Buffalo in New York.

A former collegiate soccer player, Dr. Hall brings a personal appreciation for the importance of movement and understands the physical and mental drive it takes to return from injury. She creates individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s goals, combining evidence-based techniques with a hands-on, compassionate approach. It is important to Dr. Hall that she takes the time to understand her patients’ goals so they can work together to create a treatment path that fits their lifestyle. Dr. Hall has worked with athletes at all levels—from high school and NCAA Division I to professional football, hockey, and lacrosse—and she enjoys caring for patients of any gender, age, or level of competition.

Originally from mid and northern Michigan, Dr. Hall is happy to be back in her home state with her husband, two children, and two huskies. Outside of work, she enjoys cycling, triathlons, skiing, hiking, playing golf with her family, and spending time on the water during Michigan summers.

Dr. Hop specializes in hip and knee surgery. He is the most experienced fellowship-trained total joint replacement surgeon in the area, having performed over 8,000 hip and knee replacements since joining Shoreline Orthopaedics in 1998. He is a Michigan native who was born in Zeeland and grew up in Midland. He returned to West Michigan when he attended Hope College for his undergraduate education, which he completed with honors. Dr. Hop then attended the University of Michigan medical school where he also graduated with honors.

Dr. Hop’s orthopaedic specialization began with his residency at the University of Iowa, which is consistently recognized as one of the top orthopaedic hospitals and residency programs in the nation. There he received a broad training in all aspects of orthopaedics with the leading surgeons in their fields. Dr.

Hop also participated in research while in Iowa earning national and regional awards for his research and medical writing. He then attended a fellowship in total joint replacement and knee reconstruction at the world-renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre at Oxford University in England. This extensive training and his experience is put into practice not only in joint replacement but also in reconstructive treatment of injuries and diseases of cartilage, bone, ligaments and tendons about the knee and hip. He attends frequent national meetings and continually strives to keep abreast and trained in the latest treatment techniques.

Dr. Hop’s broad education is complemented by his philosophy of partnering with his patients to design a treatment program tailored to each patient. Nonoperative treatments are always considered first, but if arthritis or disease has progressed past the point of nonoperative care, he is experienced in both the anterior and posterior approaches to total hip replacement as well as partial knee replacement and is able to discuss all options with his patients and choose the most appropriate surgery for each patient’s unique situation.

In addition to his work in West Michigan, Dr. Hop is dedicated to serving those in need in other areas of our world. He is involved in medical mission work in Honduras and Guatemala, as well as nonmedical work in Guatemala concentrating on orphan feeding programs, widow housing and victims of human trafficking.

Dr. Howell’s specialties as an orthopaedic surgeon are hand surgery, and surgery of the hand and wrist. He graduated with distinction from Kenyon College and received his M.D. from Ohio State University College of Medicine, followed by his residency at Henry Ford Hospital. After completing his fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery, Dr. Howell became an instructor in the hand fellowship program, and in the orthopaedic residency program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was a practicing orthopaedic hand surgeon on the staff of Spectrum Orthopaedics (Canton, Ohio) from 1997 until 2006, when he joined Shoreline Orthopaedics. Dr. Huprikar is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with subspecialty training in interventional pain management, sports medicine, and electrodiagnostic medicine. Her multifaceted approach includes therapy, osteopathic manual medicine, medications, and injections. She is passionate about using her knowledge of diagnosing and treating neurological and musculoskeletal conditions to help patients become more functional and reach their goals.

Dr. Huprikar completed her undergraduate and medical education, as well as residency and fellowship, at Michigan State University, serving as chief resident her final year of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency. During her two-year EMG, Interventional Spine, and Sports Medicine Fellowship, she worked closely with Division I athletes, both in the training room and on the sidelines. In addition, she volunteered at a weekly injury clinic held by a local running store, and provided medical coverage for high school football games. Dr. Huprikar remains up to date on the latest research and is an active member of multiple national societies, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Spine Intervention Society, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Huprikar enjoys running, hiking, gardening, boating, and going to the beach.

As an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and microsurgery, Dr. Kelsheimer provides comprehensive upper extremity care that includes fracture management, nerve and tendon injuries, sports injuries, trauma, and arthritic conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Kelsheimer’s orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital was followed by an additional year of fellowship training at the prestigious Florida Orthopaedic Institute at Tampa General Hospital where his training focused on hand and upper extremity orthopedic surgery and microsurgery. He started his practice at Orthopedic Specialists and St. Luke’s Hospital, where he spent three years providing comprehensive hand and upper extremity orthopedic care, including microsurgery, to residents of the greater St. Louis area. Dr. Kelsheimer is also a regular presenter and faculty at national and regional conferences.

As frequent visitors to western Michigan, Dr. Kelsheimer and his family are pleased to be official Michiganders and immerse themselves in the Holland community. Dr. Khoury is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic foot and ankle specialist. He grew up in Farmington Hills, Michigan and earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan in 1996. After the sudden death of his father at a young age, Dr. Khoury worked full time as an EMT in Detroit while completing a master’s degree in biology at Wayne State University. He conducted basic science research at Henry Ford Hospital’s Bone and Joint Center, and received his M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Khoury completed a five-year orthopaedic surgical residency at the Detroit Medical Center and a one-year foot and ankle fellowship under the direction of Dr. Arthur Manoli II in Pontiac, Michigan. Dr. Marcolina is board-certified in interventional pain management and physical medicine and rehabilitation. His extensive training allows him to use a multidisciplinary, research-based, and opioid-sparing approach to address a variety of painful disorders. Dr. Paff specializes in treatment and surgery of the hand and upper extremities, as well as general orthopaedic trauma. As a D.O. orthopaedist, his approach to medicine and patient care is uniquely holistic. Patients can be confident that he will exhaust all nonsurgical measures before recommending surgery. Dr. Paff entered medicine because he felt called to help people in need, and his early experience as a nurse assistant has imparted a uniquely developed sense of patient care. Following his internship and residency at Des Peres Hospital in Missouri, Dr. Paff completed his orthopaedic hand fellowship at University of Mississippi Medical Center. He trained under Dr. William B. Geissler, a world-renowned hand surgeon and prolific, cutting-edge designer of orthopaedic implants.

After traveling extensively, Dr. Paff is pleased to be back in his home state of Michigan, along with his wife and two beautiful daughters. His eclectic musical tastes range from folk and bluegrass to classic rock and roll, and he enjoys attending live music concerts. As an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee surgery, Dr. Spiering is fellowship- trained in total joint replacements. In addition to general orthopaedic surgery and injury treatment, his extensive training has provided experience in both anterior and posterior approaches for total hip replacement, partial and total knee replacements, knee arthroscopy for meniscus and cartilage disorders, rapid recovery protocols, as well as complex primary and revision surgery including pelvic reconstruction and periprosthetic infections. Dr. Stewart’s extensive training and experience includes caring for athletes and treating common orthopaedic problems ranging from pediatric injuries to fractures and other injuries of the musculoskeletal system. This expertise, combined with his philosophy of personalized care, allows him to develop the most appropriate plan of treatment— either surgical or nonsurgical—based on the needs, goals and desires of each individual. His patients include little league, high school, collegiate and professional athletes, as well as nonathletes and weekend warriors—all receiving the same expert level of care.

During his fellowship at The Methodist Hospital and Baylor Clinic, Dr. Stewart trained with physicians whose advice and treatment was sought by athletes from across North America. He was an assistant physician for the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team, accompanying the team for spring training. Dr. Stewart also assisted with the Houston Texans NFL team, the Houston Dynamo Major League Soccer team, University of Houston athletic teams, and several Houston area high school football teams. He trained with team doctors for the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Fire, and Northwestern University athletic teams while in residency at the prestigious Northwestern University in Chicago.

Dr. Stewart’s personal involvement in numerous sports medicine activities includes coverage of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, the NBA pre-draft camp and the Joffrey Ballet, as well as performing athletic physicals and football game physician coverage for Chicago Public Schools. A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, theArthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Dr. Stewart speaks both conversational and medical Spanish.

Dr. Stewart is certified to perform Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Total Knee surgery.

Since coming to Holland, Dr. Stewart has become heavily involved in treating athletes at Hope College, as well as at area high schools. He has developed a close working relationship with all of the area’s athletic trainers, which allows for coordinated care of the athletes he treats. You can frequently find Dr.

Stewart on the sidelines of many area sporting events volunteering his time to help care for the athletes.

Originally from Grand Rapids, Dr. Stewart’s studies have taken him all over the country. Dr. Stewart is happy to be living in and serving the West Michigan community.

Dr. Swartz focuses on providing advanced care for disorders of the hip and knee. He uses the newest techniques and leading edge technologies to perform hip and knee replacements. Dr. Swartz is certified and experienced in performing Mako Robotic- Arm Assisted Partial and Total Knee Arthroplasty.

He provides a variety of services, including:

• Minimally invasive posterior and anterior approaches for total hip arthroplasty
• Robotically assisted partial and total knee replacements
• Revision of failed hip and knee replacements
• Knee arthroscopy for treatment of meniscus and cartilage disorders
• Operative and nonoperative fracture care

After earning his bachelor’s degree in biology from Hope College in 2004, Dr. Swartz went on to receive his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. He completed a five- year orthopaedic surgery residency at Michigan State University, St. John Oakland Hospital, followed by a one- year fellowship in adult reconstruction at Desert Orthopedic Center in Nevada. Dr. Swartz grew up in Richmond, Michigan and is pleased to be back on the lakeshore with his family.

Dr. Watkins specializes in a wide array of podiatric foot and ankle pathologies, with interests in minimally invasive correction of bunions, hammer toe, and tailor’s bunion deformities. He has extensive experience in the Lapidus procedure for bunion correction, including the Lapiplasty technique. Dr. Watkins has comprehensive clinical expertise in diabetic foot care, lower extremity wound care, diabetic limb salvage, Charcot deformity, and all skin conditions of the foot and ankle (including warts, skin lesions, glass/foreign body removal, and ingrown nails). Dr. Watkins believes patient care is a collaborative effort between the patient and provider, and that education is crucial to empowering patients to become the primary directors of their treatment and outcomes. His philosophy towards patient care is specific to the individual and focused on preventative and conservative care.

Dr. Watkins earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Grand Valley State University. He completed his medical training at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, followed by his podiatric medical and surgical residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University. During his residency, he spent several months training on the orthopaedic service at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, as well as orthopaedic trauma at Detroit Receiving Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center. Dr.

Watkins’ specialized training includes elective forefoot correction, wound care, limb salvage, trauma, and all aspects of podiatric surgery.

Originally from Metro Detroit, Dr. Watkins greatly enjoyed his time in West Michigan as an undergraduate student at Grand Valley State University, where he was part of the swimming and diving team. He spends his free time running, swimming, cooking, and spending time with his family. He is excited to return to the Lakeshore area as part of Shoreline Orthopaedics.
